Desire
Ultimately there is only one desire in the human heart, the desire to know God. To know the Self and know that I am That.
This, however, is not the actual experience of most humans yet. There are many other desires clouding the mind and the heart, desires that cancel each other out. The awareness is going into many directions at once and accomplishing very little. These desires are ones that we meet at the very surface of our awareness and following them we will stay at the surface. The desire for more money keeps us putting our time and efforts to create more money. Trying to find a perfect relationship keeps us looking for it but from a place where it will never exist. Wanting to perfect the life as we see it will keep us busy for a long time and nothing comes of it.
Ascension provides a wonderful tool to untangle the mess of contradicting desire streams and to help discover what we truly hold inside. What would I be doing if all compromise was removed from my life? What is the deepest desire that I came to fulfil in this life? It is like peeling an onion layer by layer, perhaps with some tears, but eventually knowing what is real inside of us.
How many people settle for a half-life only because they don’t really know what they want? Wondering through places and times ignoring the voice inside that is always reminding gently of what we ourselves want to give to ourselves.
Through Ascension the deepest desire to know God will naturally and automatically rise to the surface and we become more one-pointedly aware of it. And just as naturally the other desires become less significant. Not because there is something inherently wrong with them but because we have come to know what it is that we truly want.
The ability to be dynamic and face change in life is far easier if one is aligned with a pure desire in one’s own heart. Knowing what one wants and committing to it with all mind, heart, body and soul has such tremendous power in it. Yet until we step into that with both feet we will not know the reality of it. Regular Ascension purifies our mind and our heart from the clutter of old thoughts and programs and allows us to see clearly what we desire in our hearts. It is a gift beyond any measure.

Desire and Fulfillment
Desire is the key to everything. Desire is the Holy Spirit moving in form. For those with completely clear nervous systems there is no gap between desire and fulfillment. For the rest of us the movement hits past impressions in our nervous systems, leading to action to fulfill the desire. The results we get are either satisfying or not. It’s a perfect feedback loop. The fulfillment of desire brings us one step closer to finding out what is worth desiring and ultimately to knowing the Source of both the desire and its fulfillment.
Ascension engages the natural desire of the mind to seek happiness and the natural desire of the body to rest and heal itself. From our own direct experience we find that turning inward toward the Source of Creation is more satisfying than seeking fulfillment in the ever-changing world of experience. We continue to create our lives and our experiences much as before, but our conscious awareness of what we are doing increases. We become wiser about which desires we work to fulfill and which desires we let go of. A very small child will often not trade the shiny new penny they have in hand for a ten dollar bill. They have no experience of the value of that little piece of paper. We always choose that which we value most.
The beauty of ascension is that we connect to the Infinite Source every time we use the ascension attitudes. We close our eyes and experience healing. Then we go about our business from a completely new place. The mind continues to have thoughts as before. This is part of life and part of ascension. Now however, we are creating a new experience in our lives that is more pleasing than our old thoughts of worry or lack. We now have a tool we can use to redirect the mind any time we remember to think an ascension attitude.
With regular daily practice, all of our old limiting beliefs will eventually dissolve. All we need to do is innocently introduce the ascension attitudes and let our Infinite Self bring us everything we need. Most of us seem just a little too stubborn to make it that simple and easy though. Some of us have been holding that penny for a very long time thinking that it’s all we’re ever going to get. It may not be shiny now and we may really want that ten dollar bill, but we sit in fear with our thoughts of what might go wrong.
MSI asked teachers of Ascension to end of each first sphere with this question: ‘Where in my life am I compromising?’ He knew that unfulfilled desire results from limiting beliefs about why we can’t or shouldn’t have what we want. Holding on to the old beliefs of the small self slows down the growth of consciousness.
A great deal of energy is wasted by having desires we do nothing about. We sit with our thoughts about what life might be like… if only… afraid to take steps forward. This is exactly the opposite of Ascending. Thoughts of praise, gratitude, and love happen only now, not some day, for what might be then. We must begin with praise and we must move forward. No one can do this for us. All of the universe is here to serve us. We are meant to be masters of creation.

God's Desire
We are already continually creating our world with our desires, thoughts, beliefs, prejudices. The more we evolve in consciousness, the more our individual reality is aligned and unified with the whole existence. It is not that we have to become better at creating reality; every human being is already perfect at that. But we do become better at changing our viewpoint to a wholly positive, evolutionary and Cosmic perspective. And this means that the whole of Nature supports our every desire, for our every desire is the same as God's desire.

What we Focus on Grows
What we focus on grows. This is one of the natural laws of the universe. Whatever one puts their attention on will expand in their life. Consistent with this, if we focus on NOT having something in our lives, we get more of the experience of "NOT having that" because we are focusing on that.
We must turn to look toward what we want to bring in more of what we want into our lives. What we do now want will simply fall away. For example, when we are facing away from the sun, we see many shadows. If we want to get rid of the shadows, what do we do? We turn and face the sun and very easily the shadows disappear. If I decided to that I wanted to leave to New York, how many days or years will I continue to say that I wish to leave to New York? I must decide where I want to go. When I decide where I want to go, then I begin the moving process to my new home.
This is why Patanjali said, "from friendliness toward happiness, from compassion toward suffering, from joyfulness toward virtue, and from indifference toward vice is born clarity of consciousness." Pada I Sutra 33 of Enlightenment!
MSI in his commentary said " a compassionate touch for our own suffering inside is necessary as is joy for our virtue and simple indifference to our vice. Why indifference? Because evil resisted gains in power by our negative energy. That is why forcibly repressed seeks other ways to manifest. Like green branches thrown on a fire, attempting to repress tendencies creates a thick smoke which smothers clarity."
"Forcing down any self-destructive habit only results in more and stronger ones manifesting to take its place. With great effort, alcoholism is broken: the former alcoholic now smokes three packs a day. By greater effort, smoking is curbed: now the former smoker weights in at 350 pounds. Repression leads to undesirable consequences."
Ascension is an experience of moving toward what we want. Each time we think an Ascension Attitude, we are moving to the Source of Everything. Also, we are moving our attention on Praise, Gratitude and Love as well as the Ultimate Force for Good. Who doesn't want more of that in their lives? The more we ascend, the clearer our desires become, the faster we begin to experience a life that is constantly expanding in love and Joy.

Divine Truth
Therein lies the level of consciousness that upholds Divine Truth: Rtam bhara prajna.
Pada I Sutra 48, Enlightenment!
There is no limit to the ability of this level of consciousness: there is no limit of the power for good that can be attained by any human being, fully in contact with the Divine. It is precisely this level of consciousness that is upholding or bearing the entire structure of Creation from the smallest to the largest. It is precisely this level that maintains the integrity of all Natural Law, everywhere, always. Therefore the mechanics of reordering Creation in any desired way are really quite simple - take your consciousness to its source, the Infinite, Absolute Self, and there you will see the two faces of Deity - the one forever facing the Ascendant, the other forever facing the manifest Creation. And these two (which are truly only one) are responsible for all that was, is or will ever be. By making their acquaintance, any request will be answered, any desire fulfilled. INSTANTLY.
Knowing full well this level of consciousness, Christ could say, " In all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive" (Matthew 21:22); "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you" (Luke 11:9). The fact that he recognized the omnipresence of this level of Reality reflects in His assertion that those who would follow His path would do greater things than these: "The works that I have do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do" (John 12:12)

Emotions
We owe it to our selves to discover what our feelings and desires really are. It is necessary to stop manipulating ourselves or others to fulfill our needs; honest and open expression alone allows us to channel the power of our emotions positively. Instead of demanding, we must learn to share our true feelings; this enables us not to be a victim of our own uncontrolled defenses and reactions. It is necessary for us to learn to be our own Cosmic Parents: through wisdom and benevolence, we can lovingly recognize and subtly direct our desires without trying to dam them up and struggle with them. This need not be difficult!

An Ever-Full and Steady Ocean
He whom all desires enter as
waters enter the ever-full and
unmoved sea attains peace, and
not he who cherishes desires.
When a man has risen to this lasting state of consciousness, the state where his Self is detached from and not over shadowed by the relative states of life - waking, dreaming and deep sleep - then his state is like that of an ever-full and steady ocean. This being the state of absolute bliss, is the goal of all desires in life.
Desires arise from a particular want, from a lack of happiness; the mind is ever seeking a field of greater happiness. Thus desires are always flowing towards eternal bliss-consciousness, as rivers to the ocean.
Once bliss-consciousness is permanently attained, desires have served their purpose and therefore cravings do not arise. This is a state of true contentment, a state of lasting peace.
The Lord says that lasting peace is never achieved by one who is not complete in himself and still craves worldly things. However, this does not mean that in order to attain peace in life a man should cease to desire and aspire. It is the desires that lead a man to greater happiness and to fulfillment - not the control and killing of desires, which has been widely advocated through the ages.
This verse too has been has been wrongly interpreted, with a consequent increase in dullness and inefficiency, particularly in the lives of the young people in India. The undue stress laid on fatalism has proved disastrous for their physical well-being and for the material progress of the society. Thinking that to desire and to aspire will not lead to peace, people begin to abstain from enterprise and cease to open the gates of progress. This is simply a wrong understanding of the Lord's teaching.
